Review: Handgel Aloe Vera (Action)

Een duidelijke merknaam kan ik niet ontdekken op de fles, maar deze handgel kocht ik bij de Action. Het is zo’n handzeep waarbij je geen water nodig hebt, gewoon inwrijven, eventjes wachten tot het opdroogt en alle bacteriën (behoren) onschadelijk gemaakt te zijn. Heel handig voor op het toilet, de make-up tafel en op het werk (zeker als je met computers werkt). Bacteriën veroorzaken tenslotte pukkels (wat betreft de huid iig), dus is het altijd fijn om eventjes snel je handen te kunnen reinigen voordat je aan de make-up begint of het eventjes bijwerkt. Daarom wilde ik er zelf al een tijdje een proberen.

Nou heb ik al veel positieve dingen gelezen over merken als Hèrome, en we hebben thuis op het toilet eentje van de Kruidvat die ook prima werkt. Maar ik ben altijd enthousiast voor low budget varianten, vandaar dat ik toch ook maar eens bij de Action ging kijken. Daar kocht ik dus deze 🙂

I can’t find any specific brand name on the bottle, but I bought this hand sanitizing gel at Action (a Dutch budget store). It’s one of those soaps that you can wash your hands with, without having to rinse them afterwards. Just give it a few seconds to dry, and all bacteria are (supposed to be) dead. Very handy for in the bathroom, on the makeup table and at work (especially if you work with computers). Amongst other things, bacteria can cause pimples and other nasty things on the face, so it’s always nice to be able to quickly clean your hands before applying makeup. So I really wanted one too.

I’ve read a lot of positive things about other brands such as Hèrome, and we have a bottle of the brand Kruidvat in the bathroom at home. But I always like searching for the absolute cheapest version I can find, which is how I ended up looking in budget stores. Which is where I bought this one 🙂

Van iets dat zo goedkoop is dat er niet eens een duidelijk merk te ontdekken is, kun je natuurlijk geen extreem luxe verpakking verwachten. Het viel me trouwens later pas op dat we deze op het post depot hebben staan op m’n werk, maar dat terzijde 😉 De flacon zelf is redelijk makkelijk in te knijpen, maar is wel sterk. Het spuitmondje moet je bij het eerste gebruik open draaien. Handig, want dan weet je zeker dat hij nog niet gebruikt is. Hem dicht krijgen lukt (mij) namelijk niet meer. In het kort; simpel en stevig, en dat is precies wat ik graag wil bij een budget product. Beter zo dan nep-luxe en binnen een uurtje kapot, toch? Deze is (evenals degene op het depot) al meerdere malen gevallen, en zijn nog steeds prima intact.

De sticker op de voorkant loopt lichtjes over van wit naar groen, heeft blauwe tekst en een plaatje van Aloe Vera bladeren. Ik moet zeggen dat ik hem netjes in elkaar gezet vind. En even vanuit het creatieve oogpunt, het is mooi gedaan dat het groen vooral onderin duidelijk is, terwijl de groene bladeren juist boven het midden zitten. Blauw associeer ik zelf met zeep, dus dat is een goede keuze voor de tekst. Maar even zonder er lang naar te kijken maakt de sticker een goedkope maar duidelijk indruk. Je ziet meteen dat het om een handgel gaat, en dat is het belangrijkste.

Nog een pluspuntje; de fles is makkelijk open te draaien, dus ook als hij leeg is kun je hem prima gebruiken om andere zeep of zelfgemaakte producten in te doen. Op die manier kun je hem dus nog recyclen ook 😉

From something that’s so cheap that there isn’t even a clear brand name on it,  I don’t expect a very luxurious packaging. Later, I realized we have this same hand sanitizer at my Saturday job, but that’s not important 😛 The bottle itself is rather easy to squeeze, but it’s strong nonetheless. The pump has to be turned for it to open at the first use. Nice, that way you can be sure that no one used the product before you bought it, seeing as closing it doesn’t work. In short; simple and sturdy, and that’s what I like in a budget product. Better that than a fake luxe look and then getting it broken in less than an hour, right? This bottle (as did the one at my Saturday job) has fallen multiple times already, and it’s still in perfect shape.

The sticker on the front has sort of a white/green ombre look, blue text and an image of Aloe Vera leafs. I have to admit I like how thought out it looks. From the creative point of view, it’s nice how the green of the background is all the way on the bottom, while the green leafs are above the centre. Blue makes me think of soap, so that’s a good choice for the letter colouring. But even without giving it too much thought, the sticker looks cheap yet clear. It’s instantly visible that it’s a hand cleanser, and that’s the most important thing.

Another plus; the cap is easy to twist off, so once it empty it can be used to store other soap or home made products. So it could also be reusable 😉

De ingrediëntenlijst is redelijk kort. De twee meest gebruikte (dus die bovenaan de lijst staan) zijn water en alcohol. Ik ga ervan uit dat de meeste andere bestanddelen zorgen voor het uit zichzelf drogende effect van de handgel. Verder zit er parfum in. Nou heb ik qua huid geen problemen met parfum, maar in dit geval hadden ze het ook wel weg mogen laten, daarover zo meer.

The list of ingredients is rather short. The two most used ones (the ones on top of the list) are water and alcohol. I’m guessing a lot of the other ingredients take care of the self drying effect of the hand sanitizer. Other than that, it contains perfume. While I usually don’t have problems with that, and my skin never has any issues with it, I’d have found it better if they had just left it out in this case, but more about that later.

Deze flacon gaat nu al enkele maandjes mee, wat misschien wel te zien is aan de foto’s. Bij aankoop zit hij echt vol, natuurlijk, maar hier is dus al wat uit. Uiteraard heb ik geen laboratorium om eventjes te testen hoeveel bacteriën hij wel of niet doodt, maar ik merk wel dat mijn huid er blij mee is als ik iedere dag braaf m’n handen schoonmaak voordat ik make-up aan ga brengen. Dat is dus een teken dat de handgel inderdaad zijn werk doet. Uit zichzelf drogen doet hij ook prima.

Net als een gewone handzeep, is het de bedoeling een beetje van dit product in je hand te pompen. Dan wrijf je het in je handen net als dat je met normale zeep zou doen, zodat je ieder stukje huid goed meepakt. En een paar seconden later zijn ze droog. Ik merk dat dit bij deze handgel wel een seconde of wat langer duurt als bij die van bijvoorbeeld het Kruidvat, maar het is alsnog een kwestie van seconden. En iedereen heeft toch wel een paar seconden de tijd om hun handen te reinigen?

Eigenlijk, en hier komen we terug bij de parfum, kan ik als enig minpunt de geur noemen… Het zal best een beetje Aloe Vera achtig moeten ruiken, maar ik vind het een ietsje te plantaardige geur. En het heeft ook vaag iets weg van zeep, maar net apart genoeg om het een vreemd luchtje te maken. Het went wel na een paar weekjes gebruik, maar echt lekker zal ik het nooit gaan vinden. Door de zeep-achtige lucht ruikt het in ieder geval wel schoon.

This bottle has been used for a few months, which you might have noticed from the photos. When buying it, it’s really a full bottle rather than what I’m showing you here. I obviously don’t have a laboratory to check how many bacteria it does or doesn’t kill, but I have noticed my skin likes it if I consistently clean my hands with this product before applying make-up. I take that as a sign of it doing its job well. And it also dries on the hands as it’s supposed to.

Just as with a regular hand soap, you’re supposed to pump a bit of this onto your hand, then rub it in like a usual soap so every piece of skin gets some product on it. A few seconds later they’re dry again and it’s done. I do notice this hand sanitizer takes a second or so longer to dry than for example the one by Kruidvat. But again, it’s a matter of about a second, and anyone can spare a few seconds to clean their hands, right?

Actually, and this is where we get back to the perfume, the only thing I don’t like about this product is the scent… It’s probably supposed to be Aloe Vera like, but it’s a bit too plant like for my tastes. It also vaquely smells like old fashioned soap, but just different enough to be weird. I did get used to it after using it for a few weeks, but I don’t think I’ll ever really like it. But at least it smells clean, due to the strange soap scent.

In conclusie, ben ik eigenlijk helemaal tevreden met dit product. De prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is prima, eigenlijk zelfs in het voordeel van de kwaliteit. Nou weet ik eerlijk gezegd niet meer hoeveel het kostte, maar het was volgens mij minder als €1. Als iemand het wel precies weet, hoor ik het graag en dan pas ik het even aan 😉 Het enige dat ik minder lekker vind is de geur, maar die blijft toch geen uur hangen. Bovendien is hij ook niet uitgesproken vies, alleen vreemd.

Deze handgel heeft in feite gewoon alle punten die ik belangrijk vind in zo’n product. Een stevige verpakking die makkelijk te hanteren is. Een spuitpompje dat goed en hygiënisch werkt, en ook nog los te draaien is om de flacon te kunnen hergebruiken als hij leeg is. De stickers op de voor- en achterkant zijn simpel en hebben een goedkopere uitstraling, maar laten wel duidelijk zien om wat voor product het gaat. Bovendien; alles wat je moet weten over het product staat er netjes op. Ik zie trouwens ook op de achterkant staan dat hij minimaal 2 jaar houdbaar is. Deze handgel werkt wel zuinig, maar nou ook weer niet zo zuinig dat je bij normaal gebruik bang hoeft te zijn dat hij over de datum raakt voordat hij op is 😛

Ook doet hij prima zijn werk, drogen duurt een fractie langer dan bij andere merken maar is nog altijd een kwestie van een paar seconden. Ik merk aan mijn gezicht dat het inderdaad mijn handen goed schoonmaakt, bijvoorbeeld voor het aanbrengen van make-up. Alleen de geur is eventjes wennen, en dan nog niet erg lekker. Maar dat vind ik in vergelijking een kleinigheid, ik heb hem tenslotte niet gekocht als luchtje.

In het kort; een zeer goedkope handgel die prima zijn werk doet. Geen luxe verpakking, wel een redelijk vreemd luchtje. Maar het snel schoonmaken van handen zonder dat je water nodig hebt doet hij zonder problemen. Als je op zoek bent naar een goedkope handreiniger, raadt ik deze zeker aan!

In conclusion: I like this product. The price/quality ratio is good, the quality is actually better than I expected. I don’t actually remember how much this product cost, but I think it was less than €1. If anyone knows the exact price, feel free to tell me and I’ll edit that in this article 😉 The only thing I don’t particularly like about it, is the scent. Then again, that doesn’t hang around for hours, and it’s not really bad. Just weird.

This hand sanitizer basically has everything I find important in such a product. Sturdy packaging that’s easy to handle. A pump, so the product stays hygienic. And it’s easy to re-use the bottle once it’s empty. The stickers on the front and the back are simple and look rather cheap, yet they do contain all the important information. I also noticed on the back, that the product is supposed to stay usable for 2 years. While I do think this sanitizer can last for a long time before it goes empty, I don’t think it’s very probable for it to last long enough to ever go bad 😛

It does its job well, drying time is only a fraction longer than with other brands. But it’s still a matter of seconds until the hands have dried. I do notice from how my face responds if I clean my hands with this before moving on to makeup, that this hand sanitizer does clean my hands well. Only the scent is less nice, but I don’t find that to be very important. After all, I didn’t buy it for the scent.

In short, a very cheap hand sanitizer that works just fine. No luxurious looks, and a kinda strange scent. But quickly and easily cleaning the hands without needing water isn’t a problem for this product at all. If you’re looking for a cheap hand sanitizer, I’d definitely recommend this one!
